Restoration-station, what’s your inspiration?
This ‘70s Gibson SG with Bigsy came to our bench stripped down save the headstock, with the request to bring it back to a like-new finish in a transparent walnut (shifting from original cherry), update hardware when necessary, and maintain/clean-up-corrosion on salvageable parts (retaining all originals). The Bigsby will be fixed-in-place to convert to hardtail without altering setup. The original pickups and wiring will be kept intact wherever possible (input jack looked in need of replacement)… all to strike a nice balance of vintage-vibe and updated playability. A full re-fretting job might be necessary, but will try to get one more crowning out of the worn-down frets for now.
As of now, we have the wear-and-tear restored, grain highlighted and filled, and wood sealed up to be ready for finish. This restoration will take Feather Guitars further into vintage color matching to match the right tone (as previous color sets were not quite right) for this custom restoration, and will be well deserving of our upgraded spray set-up.
